"Portrait" taken under the midday sun

Since the invention of cameras, photographers have been intense sunlight at noon with a fight. Extreme contrasts, strong light, dark shadows, gray screen, as well as some other annoying situation is met most often when shooting at noon. In fact, article already has a lot on the midday shooting, but the problem still bothers a lot of people. Here are some tips for shooting in the blazing midday sun, they are very useful.

1.  shadow

most simple way is to avoid it against the Sun. We can't let the Sun change speed, but can hide in buildings, trees and other man-made or natural objects below. However, not all shadows are the same, such as mottled shadows, dark shadows, surrounded by shadows, the shadows of the shadows and on the side of the head.

remember that shade is not without light, you can't take anything. Instead, the shadow is on the light softens, through soft light through other media exposure on your subject. Determine from which direction the light is very important in the subject--usually the light is coming from more than one direction. Under normal circumstances, recent weak reflectors or the soft light, is the main source of light.

Add background elements, this will be particularly important. For example, the subject is located in the edge of the shadow, is in the shadows behind the building, shot experience is much lighter than the background. This is because the reflection of the Sun closer to the shadow is on the edge of your subject. To move the subject back, close to the background, causes the relative ratio between the two closer – reducing scene contrast. Understanding the direction of light is very important to take photos of different effects.

2.  fixed-focus lenses and polarizers

fixed-focus lens and a polarizer to cut strong midday light is a great tool. Compare with zoom lenses, fixed-focus camera sharper and better contrast and glare control. Have you ever found that photographs taken will be green in the Sun's glare? Prime lenses are better in handling internal reflections and glare. In addition you can also use the lens hood, also can have very good results.

be used Prime lenses with polarizers, you will take the color saturation, high contrast pictures. Polarizer filter polarized light, also reduce glare and ghosting. It cannot erase the character shadows on the face under the noon sun, but will make your landscape and travel images more clear and transparent.

3.  the angle of light

in this photo, the backlight models to find the right angle, allowing light to illuminate the outline of her hair and shoulders. But to avoid a spot light on the face, taking mannequin light is softer.

shooting at noon the main problem is the model eye shadows, narrowed his eyes and highlights on your skin. If no shadow is around, you can select the backlight photography. Just want to know, if you want to ensure the model exposure to normal, usually cause the sky is overexposed; if the sky exposure is guaranteed accurate models would be too dark. Directly back to the Sun is very large. I usually make the model 30-45 the corner. Be careful of any spot in the face. I usually like to use reflectors.

4.  reflector or flexo plates

use a reflector or flexo plates weakened models and effective methods of ambient light. They can be in the Sun or a combination of sunshine and shadow areas.

reflectors come in many different sizes, shapes and colors. They are the most important applications for the shaded area to provide more light. White reflectors reflect light and the light source. Silver reflectors reflect light better, usually without the color cast, tend to produce Flash-like effects. Golden reflector reflected light warmer, and black boards actually absorb light.

flexo plate has a different series – is 1/4, 2/3, 1, and 2. They are placed between the model and the Sun to soften the light. By flexo plate from the models in front of Sun can be obtained with a similar background or the same exposure value. This is especially popular when the shoot for a magazine cover of a skill-often used in conjunction with 70-200mm lens. Models at a 90-degree angle to the Sun, light and soft in the Sun can also get the same effect with the model, but in a different light--is the light side.

If you do not have enough money to buy a high quality reflectors and flexographic plates, material which can be bought from the shop of their own making. They may not have the high quality products easy to use, but how many can have some effect. You can at a local store to buy some plastic foam board and glue them together, make a simple white reflector. I do this often, especially when the budget is insufficient, or when travelers cannot bring reflectors. Flexo plate can be made with any translucent things – but to ensure that they are white or other colors you will be projected onto the model. At the time of budget shortfalls, I used to use sheets were held up by friends as flexo plates.

5.  Flash

built-in Flash and small Flash or a set of Profoto equipment-sometimes you have to use them. There are 1,000,001 to use Flash, I'm not going to go into this topic. This is another article tasks. Remember your main goal--to eliminate the shadow less light than, getting a modeling and background are well exposed.

whatever they do--looking for shadows, use reflectors, soft light, polarizing--your goal is to reduce the scene or a flash light and eliminate shadows. Hope these tips will help you overcome the midday light.
